Two Short Films & Talk Presented by the MV Bird Club
On Saturday, April 12, from 1-2:30pm, the Martha’s Vineyard Bird Club presents a screening of two short videos and a Q&A with Bob Shriber. Free and open to the public.
Back in the early 1990’s, Bob Shriber and Vern Laux (two well-known island birders) produced a TV show pilot for PBS and a couple of short videos for ESPN. Bob has been a lifetime summer resident of Martha’s Vineyard and a permanent one since 2019. Bob is a TV producer and has birded throughout the United States and many parts of the world, but these days, you can find him spending most of his time birding year-round on Martha’s Vineyard. Join Bob as he presents his shows Bird Quest and The Bird Guys, and talks about what went on behind the scenes.
Bird Quest was a finalist in The Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival for best presenters, shared with David Attenborough.
The Bird Guys was enjoyed by viewers of PBS stations throughout the country.
Vern Laux passed away in 2016. He lived on the Vineyard for many years and wrote for many publications, including the Gazette and MV Times. He traveled the world birding on his own and as a tour leader. He is the author of the book about birds on Martha’s Vineyard, Bird News: Vagrant and Visitors on a Peculiar Island.
About Bird Quest
Vern Laux and Bob Shriber are your hosts as they guide us through the fascinating world of birds. In this episode, they travel to one of the best birding sites on the planet, the Platte River in central Nebraska. An incredible bird spectacle occurs where hundreds of thousands of Sandhill Cranes can be seen during their spring migration every year. Despite a snowstorm, Vern and Bob have fun and share with the viewer their Sandhill Crane experience.
About The Bird Guys
“Chasing Peregrines”
Bob and Vern are your hosts as they follow the Peregrine Falcon fall migration from Monhegan, Maine, to Martha’s Vineyard to the Florida Keys. Have fun with the guys as they experience and explore birds on their travels along the way.
