The Haiku: Reading and Writing Workshop
Join us this April for a haiku workshop at the West Tisbury Library. Spencer Thurlow and Donald Nitchie will lead a 4-session survey of haiku from translations of classic and modern Japanese masters to contemporary haiku in English, taking a look at the form’s history and conventions through examples. Sessions will include short writing exercises, which are voluntary. Meets April 9, 11, 16, and 18, from 3-4:30pm. No sign up required to attend. Free and open to the public.
Spencer Thurlow’s work has appeared in The Georgia Review, Tokyo Poetry Journal, Granta, and others. He co-translated Sonic Peace by Kiriu Minashita, and Is It Poetry? by Hirata Toshiko, with Eric E. Hyett.
Donald Nitchie has had poems published in the Cape Cod Review, On The Seawall, and From the Farther Shore: Discovering Cape Cod and the Islands Through Poetry. He leads in-class writing Poetry Drop-Ins through the local libraries.
