Presentation: African Artists Community Development Project

On Saturday, July 13, at 3:30pm, at the West Tisbury Library, Marsha Winsryg will give a presentation about her African Artists Community Development Project. Marsha will show photos and talk about her work in Zambia on behalf of a community of families who have children with disabilities. Free and open to the public.

“On my trip to Zambia last March, I was surprised to find some very positive changes because of a radical positive shift in the government. A truly anti-corruption, pro-people president has been elected who is making serious improvements for the lives of the majority of Zambians who live under the poverty line, especially for women and children.

Please come to hear about the Zambezi Women’s group who have survived extreme poverty, low social status and lack of medical care to become a force of their own, acquiring skills to create income and run their own communal farm. This is a story of how hope and determination survive, even now, in the face of a devastating drought.”

Marsha Winsryg began this journey in 1999, little knowing that it would reroute her life. She has lived on the Vineyard since 1977 as an artist, teacher, and caterer, and now has a full-time non-profit business for Zambian women and children.
