Playwrights/Aspiring Playwrights Workshop

The West Tisbury Library will host a monthly playwriting series with Jonah Maidoff on Saturdays from 12-1pm: 3/29, 4/26, and 6/28. These sessions will meet in-person in the library’s downstairs’ large conference room. Contact wt_mail@clamsnet.org to sign up. Please try to commit to all sessions. Free and open to the public! 

In this workshop we will begin with the fundamentals of theatrical writing. What are the ways that playwrights present ideas through physical storytelling?

We will read some guides for playwrights and work on writing short scenes. We will explore, read, and watch pieces from plays that have been recognized as important to the development of the art. This workshop will include a little work on raising the stakes- creating dramatic situations that illuminate some aspects of our lives that require courage to confront. 

About the instructor:
Jonah Maidoff taught at the MV Charter School since 1997. He has a BA in Drama from Kenyon College. His play Lion Hunting in North America was produced at the Burbage Theatre in West Hollywood. His play The Magic of Pants is published by Playscripts Inc. and has been performed internationally.
