Oyster Talk and Tisbury Great Pond Walk @ Sepiessa Point Reservation

Join us Thursday, October 10th, 10am @ Sepiessa Point Reservation, Town boat landing.

Generations of West Tisbury residents have long revered the wild oysters found in Tisbury Great Pond. In addition to being a delicious, locally harvested food, oysters play an important role in healthy ecosystems. Join the Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group (MVSG) and Chilmark and West Tisbury’s Shellfish Departments to learn about the municipal oyster farm visible from shore, seeding the pond, and oyster habitat restoration.

This event will be held pond side at Sepiessa Point Reservation’s town boat landing (at the end of Clam Point rd). Dress for the weather and join us after the talk for a brief autumn walk on the adjacent trails. Parking is limited, please carpool if you can. (Program will be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather.)

This program is free and open to the public. It is part of a year-long aquaculture series partnership, administered by MVSG and funded by NOAA’s eeBLUE grant, to share the benefits of aquaculture with the Vineyard community. Please email Nina Ferry Montanile, Education and Outreach Manager at MVSG, with questions: nina@mvshellfishgroup.org
