[Hybrid] Three Poems: Architecture and Reverie, presented by Bruce MacNelly

Presentation Description: If we were to think of architecture in literary terms, we might say that a building can be a poem, among many other analogies we may make. This talk will examine this idea by taking three relatively small buildings, all chapels. In spite of their differences in context all embody the idea of what might constitute an architectural poem, for in the same way that a poem is a distillation to essences, where each word can carry weight, in this idea of building-as-poem each gesture can also contribute to a larger meaning. Poems allow for reverie in a way that perhaps more expansive literary works do not; the intent in this talk is to examine how small buildings can also have this attribute.
