Family Aquaculture Series: “Sea” Below The Ocean

Become part of the Clamily! A fun, hands-on series for kids & adults to learn how local seafood nourishes us & the environment. This series is a collaborative effort between WTFPL and MVSG to increase children’s exposure to marine science, local shellfish culture, working waterfronts, and environmental stewardship.

July 17th 3:30-4:30 – “Sea” Below the Ocean 
Shellfish Touch Tank! Hold & learn about different marine invertebrates. Marine Biologists will bring in a touch tank with a wide variety of sea creatures, and share why they grow millions of bivalve shellfish each year for island waters. Free and Open To All

July 31st 3:30-4:30 Make(r) Way for Water
Build your own eco-filter in this STEAM-based maker workshop. Learn how nature filters water and fills our aquafers. (Rec. for ages 6+)
Kits available for up to 20 registrants. Registration required, email Nina at nina@mvshellfishgroup.org 

August 7th 10:30-11:00 Skippy Scallop Storytime **AT THE WEST TISBURY FARMER’S MARKET
Go on a journey with “Skippy” from one of Suzanne Tate’s nature series books. Experience a variety of scallop seed sizes, see their blue eyes, and experience nature’s most animated shellfish with a marine touch tank! Free and open to all. 

August 14th 3:30-4:30 Farming the Sea
Meet a local oyster farmer, explore how to harvest your own shellfish, and learn how shellfish feed us & clean our local waters. Free and open to all!
