Duo Amie Concert: “Moulin Rouge, A Love Story in Music, Reimagined for Cello & Piano”
On Sunday, October 26, at 2pm, come to the West Tisbury Library for a concert presented by Duo Amie. Free and open to the public.
Praised for their “brilliant virtuosity and evocative musicality”, Duo Amie (Julie Reimann cello & Ellyses Kuan piano) returns to the library to perform ‘Moulin Rouge’, a program of music adapting the riveting story from the movie musical ‘Moulin Rouge’, to cello & piano. As in the movie, which weaves together popular and original songs, Duo Amie will blend iconic pieces from the classical music and cello/piano repertoire with several original pieces created for them, to tell the story of Moulin Rouge with cello and piano. The program will include classics such as Fauré’s Elegy and Après un rêve, Elgar’s Salut d’Amour, Verdi’s Libiamo ne’ lieti calici from La Traviata, Piazzolla’s Oblivion, Massenet’s Thais Meditation, Poulenc’s Les Chemin de L’Amour and Popper’s Hungarian Rhapsody, as well as a newly commissioned work by Berklee College of Music Composer Francine Trester and newly created arrangements by the duo, including Florence Price’s Heart of a Woman.
Reimann and Kuan are world-class trained musicians who have performed nationally and internationally. They founded Duo Amie in 2015 to bring people together through the beauty and universality of music. Equally at home in classical, contemporary, and popular music forms, Duo Amie has been praised for its virtuosity, expressivity, and engaging presence (www.duoamie.org). They can be heard on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon Music, SoundCloud, and YouTube.
