Book Talk with Susan Wasserman

On Thursday, December 11, at 4:30pm, join us at the West Tisbury Library for a book talk with Susan Wasserman. Susan will present her newly released book, Stepping Off the Boat: Stories from North Manitou Island. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Free and open to the public!

Susan’s recently published book is about an island in Northern Lake Michigan. “The book has about 400 historical images and details a time and place which mirrors the settlement of both the midwest and the country. Back-breaking labor felled virgin forests, then plowed and farmed the land that was cleared. The island’s geological and historical development has been shaped by human habitation. The typical Michigan resort community from a hundred years ago, tells the story of a by-gone vacation era, when families left urban environments to spend entire summers ‘up north.’ Now part of the National Park System, campers still have to ‘step off the boat’ to visit this remote and beautiful place.”
