Book Talk with Fan Ogilvie, Ursula Goodenough, and Janet Holladay
On Saturday, June 7th at 3:30 pm, the West Tisbury Library will host a book talk with Fan Ogilvie, Ursula Goodenough, and Janet Holladay.
Fanny (Fan) Ogilvie’s poetry trilogy, Dust is the Only Secret – Assent to Life interweaves poetry, memoir, science, and art. Edited and designed by Janet Holladay, the 18 chapters are divided into three books with bold covers in red, green, and blue. The books are titled, To Understand, To Incorporate, and,Then Let It Go. Each chapter includes quoted passages from The Sacred Depths of Nature by Ursula Goodenough, a biologist and one of Ogilvie’s friends and mentors.
In a May 2024 edition of the MV Times, Ellen Story wrote about the trilogy, “Ogilvie’s own paintings, done on canvases in oil sticks and water-based oils, are interspersed throughout each volume. They beg the reader to stop, switch, be an observer and meditate on the constructed and deconstructed brushstrokes, colors, and shapes.”
Fellow lovers of biology, spiritual questioning, and those with a love for the humanities will enjoy hearing from Fan, Ursula and Janet as they read and share about the intersection of their work. This event is free and open to the public.
Fan Ogilvie is a poet, teacher of poetry, and organizer of poetry workshops and events in Washington, DC, New Haven, Connecticut, New York City, and Martha’s Vineyard.
