Artist Reception Patrick J. Cashin

For the month of June, the photography of Patrick Cashin will be on display in the library’s community room.

This is Patrick’s first exhibit since retiring from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in New York City and the first exhibit that doesn’t have an image of a subway car in it.
Patrick’s family has been coming to the vineyard since 1980. While he is not a “big beach person,” his photography reflects what he does love about MV; playing tennis, going to different events around the island, meeting the variety of people that find themselves here every summer. Patrick says, “just walking around with my camera and having something catch my eye then make an image of it is very rewarding for me.”

Patrick was born in Brooklyn, NY and after two years of college at SUNY Farmingdale, enlisted in the U.S Navy. That is when his interest in photography began, while working on the USS Denver as an Engineman. What started as a hobby photographing the faces of the Vietnamese people during Operation Frequent Wind (the evacuation of Vietnam), convinced him that his future was going to be behind the camera. After his discharge from the Navy he worked in the photolab of Newsweek magazine and took evening classes at Parsons School of Design for photography. After a number of freelance jobs, he started receiving photography assignments from Newesweek’s advertising special sections. While working 16 years for the magazine, he continued to travel and photograph worldwide, first for the Naval Reserve and then for the Air National Guard as Master Sergeant assigned to the 111th Fighter Wing, Willow Grove Pennsylvania. June 2020 he retired as the photographer for the New York State Metropolitan Transport Authority (MTA) after 20 years of image making. His photography has appeared in the New York Times, The Sunday Times, New York Daily News, The Weekly Flickr, Channel Thirteen Metro Focus, and MTA brochures and ads. He continues to make images on a freelance basis.

There will be a reception on June 6th, 2:30-4:30 pm.
Check out this show anytime throughout the month in-person at the library during normal library hours. The show and reception is free and open to the public.
