All About Moving – A Talk with Martha Hart Eddy

On Saturday, October 11, at 3:30pm, join us at the West Tisbury Library for a talk with Dr. Martha Hart Eddy, titled “All About Moving – A Big Part of Life (Health, Happiness, and Freedom).”

Is joyful longevity about being connected to your body? Or is it about spending more time outdoors, dancing to music, pursuing a long-held dream, or simply rethinking how you prioritize your time?

Join Martha Eddy—Doctor of Movement Science/Exercise Science, somatic movement therapist, nationally awarded dance educator, and internationally recognized author—as she draws from her published works:

  • Mindful Movement – Sharing the history and current trends in the field, including 40 different forms of conscious bodily movement.

  • Dynamic Embodiment of the Sun Salutation – Pathways to balancing the hormonal and nervous systems.

  • Moving For Life: A Guide to Safe Exercise During Cancer Recovery.

In light of today’s challenges, Dr. Eddy will also touch on her doctoral research into the role of physical activity in educational violence prevention—work that, unfortunately, remains deeply relevant 27 years later.

This event is free and open to the public.

About the speaker:
Martha is a fifth-generation summer resident of the Vineyard, with many family members living on the island year-round. She and her husband, Blake Middleton, divide their time between Morningside Heights in New York City and Abel’s Hill. Martha is the co-founder of two non-profits. One of them, Moving For Life, offers free in-person and online fitness programs for individuals facing physical challenges due to aging or illness. She is inspired to keep moving by the positive results she sees in her classes, whether they involve dance, exercise, or somatic awareness. Despite frequent international travel, Martha maintains a small private practice, supporting individuals of all ages with a range of physical, neurological, behavioral, and social challenges. She has served on the board of The Yard and is actively involved in training hundreds of movement professionals in her Dynamic Embodiment system. A popular public speaker, Martha has been featured live and on dozens of podcasts. Moving For Life has also been featured on major networks.
