Book Talk with Judith Bailow Hemphill

On Thursday, June 11, at 4:30pm, join us at the West Tisbury Library for a talk with author and former Vineyard teacher Judith Bailow Hemphill as she presents her new book, Teaching: The Inside Story: Why Is Educating Our Children So Complicated and Controversial? Judith will share practical insights from 20+ years in the classroom. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Free and open to the public.

About the book:

“Written to inspire, reassure, and empower both teachers and parents, Teaching: The Inside Story fills the gap left by traditional education degrees and parenting classes. It addresses the unspoken agendas, the uncomfortable truths, and the very real challenges–and possibilities–that shape our classrooms.

Part entertaining memoir, part thoroughly researched, jargon-free guide to the varied realities of schooling—both in the U.S. and around the world, this book invites discussion and provides essential wisdom for making thoughtful, effective choices. It is the book I wish I could have read before I began teaching—and before I sent my own children to school.”
