Adult Nonfiction Treasure Hunt Book Club

On Saturday, March 23, from 1-3pm, come to the West Tisbury Library for the first meeting of “Adult Nonfiction Treasure Hunt Book Club,” a group for readers who love to discuss books on wellness, psychology, and philosophy. Our first book will be Susan Cain’s Bittersweet: How Sorrow and Longing Make Us Whole. Join us for an afternoon of lively and thoughtful conversation. This group is facilitated by Antonia Deignan, author of Underwater Daughter: A Memoir of Survival and Healing.

Sign up by emailing wt_mail@clamsnet.org or just come by and join us. Please request a copy of the book in advance from the library. This event is free and open to the public.

About the book: “Bittersweetness is a tendency to states of longing, poignancy, and sorrow; an acute awareness of passing time; and a curiously piercing joy at the beauty of the world. It recognizes that light and dark, birth and death—bitter and sweet—are forever paired.

If you’ve ever wondered why you like sad music . . .
If you find comfort or inspiration in a rainy day . . .
If you react intensely to music, art, nature, and beauty . . .

Then you probably identify with the bittersweet state of mind.”

About the facilitator: Antonia Deignan, a summer Vineyard resident since her childhood in the 1970s, uses a lyrical style throughout her memoir, “Underwater Daughter,” – Abby Remer MV Times
