Artists statement/critique by Richard Limber
Looking at my “work” at this moment displayed at the library I have a few reactions…:
Given the downward spiral of our flawed democracy—-is this show a little soft? (yes)
Can pretty images bring people around towards action? (who knows, it’s worth a try…)
What, and where, is the local political connection in this presentation? (see below)
Ideally I would have a second phase to this show where, for one thing I would shine a light on the geese that lay the stinky eggs around here, that being the money that flows from very wealthy summer residents to trump and Republicans in general, for example, Paul Singer—- (6 + million recently for trump, and 360 + million for Republicans in general). Who are the other contributors? We should know….
The way I think of this show is it’s akin to a politician campaigning by shaking hands and kissing babies (pre-Covid),—— and then getting into the thicket of the political peril we find ourselves in right now.
Please check out the posters on the corner table which are an ongoing creative experiment that tries to put “fine arts” in the service of important “messaging”.
I’m always fishing around for: suggestions as to how I can improve these prints, or, ideas for completely fresh posters.
