Art reception

Rosemary Confalone

Closing reception May 25th 3:30 pm

Join us at the West Tisbury Library during the month of May for an art show by local artist, Rosemary Confalone. Confalone’s art will be on display in the library’s Community Room and a reception will be on Saturday, May 25th 3:30- 4:30 pm. Both the show and reception are free and open to the public.

Rosemary Emma Hoeft Confalone was born and raised on Martha’s Vineyard by parents who encouraged paying attention to details–spending time in nature and finding the treasures hidden there. A lifelong resident of West Tisbury, she has spent many years studying plants, finding rocks, feathers and bones, and thinking about color. Rosemary attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, before changing her focus to Sustainable Agriculture at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Plant and Soil Science.

A lifelong artist, Rosemary has recently returned to drawing and painting after more than a decade of devoting herself to farming and mothering. These paintings, done in India ink with brushes, are the outcome of a practice of noticing the stunning form, color, and lines in the leaves that fall around us each year. Rosemary has been experimenting with ways to emphasize and highlight the beauty in the natural world we see everyday, which often goes ignored.
