“Wishing Flags” by Fae Kontje-Gibbs<\/p>\n

The overall project is \u201cWishes For Children\u201d and this year I am showing not only single flags and the strings of flags as shown here. \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This year I am expanding the show to include what I\u2019m calling \u201cPractical Flags.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
As with the flags, the fabrics used are decorated by me with paint and printed with my hand carved blocks\/stamps. I\u2019ve made tea cozies and potholders, and tea towels.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
I\u2019m also including a quilt and several pillows, made for this show, also predominantly stitched out of my own decorated fabrics.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

Practical Flags for Everyday Wishes<\/p>\n

<\/u><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n

When using these \u201cpractical flags\u201d in our everyday lives, may we think of the children living in squalor under the control of adults who do not care for the children but use them for their own greedy gain. May we send a wish that these children might also, somehow, someday, enjoy the comfort of pouring cups of tea and pulling warm biscuits from the oven to share with friends. These are such simple acts that might escape our attention as being part of life\u2019s small luxuries.\u00a0<\/div>\n
