{"id":7935,"date":"2025-09-25T20:13:43","date_gmt":"2025-09-25T20:13:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/westtisburylibrary.org\/publiclibrary\/?post_type=mec-events&#038;p=7935"},"modified":"2025-09-25T20:13:43","modified_gmt":"2025-09-25T20:13:43","slug":"creative-writing-workshop-on-zoom-a-vision-for-better-care","status":"publish","type":"mec-events","link":"https:\/\/westtisburylibrary.org\/publiclibrary\/events\/creative-writing-workshop-on-zoom-a-vision-for-better-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Creative Writing Workshop on Zoom: \u201cA Vision for Better Care\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Saturday, October 18, from 10-11:30am, Moira Convey Silva and Sarah Carey will lead a Creative Writing Workshop on Zoom.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During this workshop, participants will create short pieces of writing which articulate a vision for better care\u2013be it for the planet or humanity:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cPretend it\u2019s 2030, 2045, 2070, etc. Consider: how are we ideally caring for the earth and\/or each other?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Maybe we\u2019ve redesigned towns \u2013 adding features like more sidewalks, bike paths and public transit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Or we\u2019ve squelched consumerism and embraced conservation. Could there be a return to carpentry or sewing? Have we swapped chain stores for general stores?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-How have we reimagined child or elder care? Are they somehow combined?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">* * *<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Can you, dear writer, show us another way to care \u2013 on a big or small scale?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let your imagination run wild or let intense practicality be your guide. Be artful, be simple. It\u2019s all welcome.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is your invitation to articulate the future you want \u2013 be it in a story, letter, song,\u00a0 essay or other form. \u201c<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Selected writers will be invited to read at a live event this fall. Moira and Sarah will provide more information about the live reading during the workshop.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This event is free, open to the public, and presented by the West Tisbury Library. Please email <\/span><a href=\"mailto:wt_mail@clamsnet.org\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">wt_mail@clamsnet.org<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in advance to receive the Zoom invitation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">About the instructors:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Moira Convey Silva <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a writing instructor, writing consultant, yoga teacher, community activist, and award-winning writer who, for over 10 years, has freelanced for national and local periodicals. Focusing on features and essays, especially ones that relate to sustainability, Silva\u2019s writing most notably appears in the Boston Globe, Women\u2019s Running and Taproot. Silva is a co-creative producer of Covid Monologues MV: A Project to Nourish, Inspire &amp; Connect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Sarah Carey<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has a life-long love for the Vineyard and currently lives in New York City. She is a project manager by day and art enthusiast\/community connector by night.
