This event is free and open to the public.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nanauwe is an Indigenous artist from the island of N\u00f4epe, born in 2000. She is a part of the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">W\u00f4pan\u00e2ak tribe, also known as the People of the First Light.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She has been singing and writing songs since she was a baby, with a voice described by the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MV Times as \u201celectric, angelic, soulful, and pure,\u201d and her \u201ctone is rich and bodied\u2014almost <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hypnotic.\u201d In 2020 she released her first single and music video \u201cI Am My Spirit,\u201d on Sept. 9. At only 20 years old, Nanauwe wrote, sang, recorded, and produced the song through her own production company, Freedom Water Music. She also edited and co-directed the \u201cI Am My Spirit\u201d music video. Her latest song, \u201cIsland Indigenous,\u201d was released in April of this year, which she also wrote and produced.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In her own words, her music reflects her \u201cconnective and intuitive relationship with nature\u201d and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">she draws inspiration from mama earth and Indigenous way of life. Her vision is to \u201clead people (especially people of color) back to an Indigenous way of life. Where everything is held sacred and close to your heart. Where we as humans know it is our duty to love and care for Mama Earth, just as she does for us. Humans are a vital and important part of the ecosystem, just as any other being, and we all need to contribute rather than be detrimental. Where we can have compassion and understanding that each soul as an individual and deserves respect and peace. Where we can truly give our gifts to the world and share them with each other in the knowing that if we are together, there is no lack.
