“Beethoven’s 27th Squared” – Concert featuring Peter Halperin

On Saturday, August 13, at 3:30pm, come to the West Tisbury Library for a live performance featuring pianist Peter Halperin. This event is free and open to the public.

Peter Halperin has been writing music, singing and playing the piano and guitar since early childhood. He started writing songs at 15 and has continued songwriting to this day. (He recently turned 70). During the 1970s he performed at prominent folk clubs including the Gaslight, Bitter End, and Folk City, in Greenwich Village. He has opened for Randy Newman, Sunny Terry and Brownie McGee, Mississippi Fred McDowal, Happy and Arty Traum, and Bob Dylan. On the Vineyard he played keyboard and sang with Michael Johnson and the Miracle Cure and with the Eclectrics. His song, “Magic in the Ocean” was included on the Vineyard Sound 2 compilation, produced by Peter Simon. 

In recent years Peter has concentrated on classical piano especially Beethoven sonatas. He performed the “Pastoral” sonata #14 at the West Tisbury Library in 2019 and then played a set of his original songs. This year he will be playing two Beethoven Sonatas, #27 Opus 90 and #14 Opus 27, (the Moonlight Sonata). “27” is Peter’s favorite number and he calls this performance “Beethoven’s 27th squared”.
