
“A Close Look at a Poem’s Opening and Closing Lines”
This one-hour focused class will help poets to write poems that will catch the eye of readers and editors. Facilitated by C. I. Marshall, examples shown in class can be sent to attendees via email. Attendees will be welcomed to discuss their favorite beginnings and endings of poems and to participate in discussions and the question & answer period at the end of the presentation. This class is for all levels of poets and poetry lovers.This event is free and open to the public.
C.I. Marshall received an MFA, Creative Writing, Poetry, from CA State University, Long Beach, B.A. Fine Arts, Mills College and was editor for ARTLIFE Magazine. Marshall’s poems have appeared in Verdad, Spillway, Packinghouse Review, Beyond the Lyric Moment: Poetry Inspired by Workshops with David St. John, Birmingham Poetry Review, The Broad River Review, Stone Quarterly Journal and Poems In The Waiting Room, UK. Marshall’s poem, “Myself As A Playboy Bunny” won the 2018 Verve International Poetry Festival Contest, Birmingham, UK and her poem “What I Love About Love’s” received Honorable Mention in the 2021 Steve Kowit Poetry Prize juried by Dorianne Laux. Marshall’s manuscript The Locksmith Journeys Into The Afterlife was co-winner of the 2022 Frosted Fire First Pamphlet Award, UK and was published by Frosted Fire in January 2023.
