Book Talk with Children’s Book Author Shirley Mayhew!
Islander: The Circus Comes to Martha’s Vineyard
Imagine crossing on the ferry with a lion, or an elephant! That’s just what happened the summer of 1963. Children’s author Shirley Mayhew will discuss her new book Islander: The Circus Comes to Martha’s Vineyard at the West Tisbury Library, July 28th at 5:00pm. This story, based on real events, is about a circus that travelled by ferry to MV in 1963. During the night, it took two ferries six round trips to carry the lions, tigers, elephants and other circus cargo to the island. Come learn about this fascinating event! Refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public.
