Book Talk with Jonathan Scott, “From England to MV- A New Beginning
At the West Tisbury Library, Thursday, July 7, at 7:00pm, Jonathan F. Scott will discuss his book Pioneer Houses of Martha’s Vineyard. Come join the discussion as Jonathan brings Island history to life. Explore the traditional architecture of the island including early settlement. Learn about the little villages of Tisbury and Chilmark in England, where many iconic Island families, including the Mayhews, came from, and how their traditional building styles evolved into our unique local architecture. Refreshments will be served. This event is a collaboration between ACE MV and the West Tisbury Library. Free and open to the public.
Jonathan F. Scott is a professor of art and architectural history who lives with his wife on the Vineyard and in Castleton, Vermont. He has taught for the past 27 years at Castleton State College. Previously he had a construction business on the Vineyard. He designed and built his homesteads on the Vineyard and in Vermont. His love of Vineyard history and its treasure trove of distinctive, but largely undocumented, early houses inspired this book.
