Venison Donation Program

November 8th, at 5:00 pm, for a conversation about IGI’s Venison Donation Program in collaboration with the Ag Society and other island non-profits.

Last year 260 lb of local- protein rich venison was given to Islanders who face food insecurity. In this second year of the program the Ag Society has offered access to a community cooler for hunters, with the fee waived if the meat is donated to IGI, via partnerships with the Island Food Pantry and Serving Hands. Reducing the deer population no only helps provide local food to those in need but can also help minimize the spread of Lyme Disease.

Come find out more in a conversation with members from the various organizations behind this program:

Marie Ambrose, Gleaning Program Coordinator and overall Volunteer Manager for Island Grown Initiative, in charge of managing deer donations and distribution of ground venison through local charities.

Brian Athearn, President of the MV Ag Society and head of the MV Hunt Club, an organization of deer management persons to engineer effective deer removal and control.

Marc Macfarlane, Facilities Manager for the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society.

Kristina West, Executive Director of the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society.
