Advanced Meditation Group with Elliott Dacher
Doctor and wellness expert Elliott Dacher will lead a series of meditation study group meetings five Thursdays this spring from 6-8pm at the West Tisbury Library: 3/16, 3/30, 4/13, 4/27, and 5/11. The central activity will be reading and discussion of the revered text The Way of the Bodhisattva written by Shantideva in the 9th century. This series is a continuation of the fall 2016 series, and will be picking up on Chapter #5 of the text. Newcomers are welcome to join. Participants must have experience with meditation practice, and must commit to all five sessions. To register, please email Elliott Dacher at firstname.lastname@example.org. This series is free and open to the public.
The Way of the Bodhisattva by Shantideva (translated by Padmakara Translation Group), contains practical wisdom, insights, reflections on life, and practical advice within a poetic text. Each participant must obtain their own copy of the book, read the assigned chapter, focus on words and stanzas that touch your life, and come to class ready for a great dialogue and teaching. Step-by-step, Shantideva teaches us how to live a healthy and meaningful life.
Note: When reading a classical text there will be sections and words that may not fit your temperament or the tenor of modern times. Please pass by these sections. Pick the stanza(s) that most move you and we will discuss them in class.
